For fencing and decking

Fence and deck invoices, measured and sent from site

Fencing and decking invoicing, measured properly: price fences by the metre and decks by the square metre, take a deposit before the timber arrives and send each neighbour their half of a boundary fence.

Fencing and decking jobs that are hard to invoice

Timber is expensive, measurements shift on site and some fences have two customers. Here is how WhizInvoice handles each.

  • One fence, two neighbours

A shared boundary fence often means two people paying half each. Send each neighbour their own invoice for their share, and track the two payments separately.

  • Timber deposits

Decking boards, posts and palings are a big outlay before you start. Take a deposit on the accepted quote, and the final invoice shows it paid.

  • Per metre and per square metre

Fences go by the metre at a set height, decks by the square metre and gates by the piece. Save each with its unit so every quote prices the same way.

  • Old fence removal

Pulling out and dumping the old fence is real work and a tip fee. Give it its own line so it never disappears into the main price.

  • Weather and a long build

A big deck can stretch across two wet weeks. Invoice the deposit at the start and the balance at the end, with both on the customer’s statement.

From a backyard enquiry to a paid invoice

  1. The enquiry with a rough sketch

A homeowner fills in your website form wanting a new deck off the lounge and the back fence replaced. It is in your enquiry list with their suburb and phone number.

  2. Measure up and quote

Send the quote with the deck area, steps, fence length, gate and removal on separate lines. The homeowner accepts it online from the lounge.

  3. Deposit, then order timber

Send the deposit invoice once the quote is accepted. When it lands in your bank, order the framing and decking.

  4. Balance on completion

Turn the quote into the final tax invoice, add any extra metres and send it from the backyard. GST at 15% is worked out and the deposit comes off.

Questions

Good to know

Can I split a shared fence between two neighbours?

Yes. Send each neighbour their own invoice for their share, and each one gets its own reminders and payment tracking.

Can I price fences per metre and decks per square metre?

Yes. Save each service with its own unit and price, and enter the measured quantity on the job.

Can I take a deposit for timber?

Yes. On Solo or a higher plan, your customer accepts the quote online, pays the timber deposit, and the final invoice deducts it.

What if the fence ends up longer than quoted?

Change the quantity on the final invoice before sending it, and the totals and GST update straight away.

Can I show photos of the finished deck?

Yes. On Solo and above you can attach photos to the invoice, so the customer has a record of the finished work.
