Invoicing in the United Arab Emirates

UAE tax invoices today, and eInvoicing ahead

Choose the United Arab Emirates once and WhizInvoice sets up dirhams, VAT at 5%, your TRN and the Tax invoice title. Read the eInvoicing timeline below before 2027, because it changes how business invoices must be issued.

Tax invoices under UAE VAT

The UAE charges VAT at a standard rate of 5%. A registrant making a taxable supply must issue an original tax invoice and deliver it to the customer within 14 days of the date of supply. In its public clarification on tax invoices, the Federal Tax Authority says that offering to print one only if the customer asks does not meet this rule.

Registration is mandatory once your taxable supplies pass the mandatory registration threshold of AED 375,000, and you must apply within 30 days of becoming required to register. The voluntary registration threshold is AED 187,500.

How WhizInvoice handles UAE tax invoices

Choose the UAE in Settings and the details below are set. Change any of them when you need to.

  • The UAE preset

Dirhams, VAT at 5%, the TRN label, the Tax invoice title, DD/MM/YYYY dates and A4 paper in one step.

  • TRN on both sides

Your TRN prints under your business name, and a registered customer’s TRN prints on their invoices once you save it on their record.

  • Simplified tax invoices covered

Each invoice shows the words Tax Invoice, your TRN, the date, a description, the total and the VAT in dirhams, which is everything a simplified tax invoice needs.

  • Sent the same day

Invoices go by email the moment you press send, and you can see when each one is delivered and opened, which makes the 14 day rule easy to meet.

  • IBAN for bank transfers

Add your IBAN once and it prints in the payment section of every invoice, next to an optional card payment link.

  • VAT collected for your return

On the Business plan, reports show the VAT you collected, ready for your tax agent or accountant.

Questions

Good to know

Does a UAE tax invoice have to say Tax Invoice?

Yes. Both full and simplified tax invoices must clearly display the words Tax Invoice, and the UAE preset uses that title for you.

When can I issue a simplified tax invoice?

When your customer is not VAT registered, or when they are registered and the supply is AED 10,000 or less. It cannot be used for supplies under the reverse charge.

How quickly must I issue a tax invoice?

Within 14 days of the date of supply. Issuing and emailing it the day you finish the job is the simplest way to stay inside that window.

Can I invoice in US dollars?

Yes, but the VAT must also be shown in AED along with the exchange rate used, based on the UAE Central Bank rate on the date of supply.

When does eInvoicing apply to my business?

Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more go live by 1 January 2027 and the rest by 1 July 2027. Businesses that sell only to consumers are outside the system until the Minister decides otherwise.
