Switch from Wave

Moving from Wave, wherever you do business

Wave offers free accounting and invoicing to small businesses in the United States and Canada. If you are outside those two countries, or want more from your invoicing, here is how WhizInvoice compares and how to bring your customers across.

Why businesses are moving from Wave

The biggest reason is geography. Wave’s help centre says Wave is only available for businesses in the United States and Canada, and that users elsewhere can no longer send invoices or reminders through Wave. If your business is in Australia, the UK, New Zealand or anywhere else, you need a new home for your invoicing.

Inside the US and Canada, Wave’s free Starter plan still offers unlimited invoices and bookkeeping records, which is generous. The trade off is in sending: on Starter, emailing invoices through Wave, automatic reminders and statements sent through Wave need online payments switched on, or the Pro plan.

WhizInvoice can be set up for most countries. Choose yours in Settings and your currency, tax name and rate, tax number label and date format follow on every invoice, and the Free plan emails your invoices and sends automatic reminders without asking you to take payments through us. Local invoicing requirements vary, so check what applies to you.

Wave facts checked October 2026 on waveapps.com/pricing and Wave’s help centre at support.waveapps.com, including its articles on supported countries, sending invoices, recurring invoices, payment reminders, statements, currencies, the mobile app and downloading your data. Pro is US$19 or C$25 a month and US$190 or C$250 a year. Wave is a trademark of its owner, named only to identify the product. WhizInvoice is not affiliated with Wave’s owner.

What Wave does that WhizInvoice does not

Wave includes double entry bookkeeping, and in the US and Canada it offers payroll and payment processing. WhizInvoice is not accounting software and never processes payments: your customers pay you by bank transfer or through your own Stripe, PayPal or Square link. It also invoices in one currency per business, while Wave lets you change the currency on an invoice.

If you used Wave for bookkeeping as well as invoicing, plan where your books will live next, for example with an accountant or an accounting package, and use WhizInvoice for quotes and invoices. WhizInvoice does not connect to or sync with Wave or any accounting software.

Move from Wave in four steps

  1. Download your data from Wave

Click your business name at the top right, open Business settings, then under Other choose Data Export and select Accounting. Wave emails you a link, valid for 24 hours, to four files in XLS or CSV, including a customers file.

  2. Gather your products and services

Wave’s data export does not include products and services. Wave documents exporting them through its Wave Connect add-on for Google Sheets, or you can type your main prices into a simple two column sheet.

  3. Import your customers and prices

On Solo or above, upload the customers CSV and your price list, then match the columns to name, email, phone, address, postcode and price.

  4. Set your country and local bank details

Choose your country in Settings, add your bank details in your local format, and connect your websites so enquiries arrive ready to invoice.

Watch for these

  • The 24 hour link

Wave’s export link expires after 24 hours. Download the files as soon as the email arrives and keep a copy safe.

  • Role permissions

Wave says Viewer and Editor roles cannot export data. The business owner, or someone with full access, needs to run it.

  • Local bank details

Add the details your customers expect, such as PayID in Australia or a sort code in the UK, so paying you is simple.

  • Tax for your country

Check the tax name, rate and tax number label WhizInvoice fills in for your country, and adjust anything specific to your business.

Questions

Good to know

Does WhizInvoice work where Wave is no longer available?

In most countries, yes, in any currency, with ready made tax settings for ten countries. Some countries require invoices to go through a government e-invoicing system that WhizInvoice does not connect to yet, so check yours first.

Does WhizInvoice import directly from Wave?

No, WhizInvoice does not connect to Wave. Download your customer file from Wave’s Data Export and import it into WhizInvoice by CSV.

Do I have to accept online payments to send invoices?

No, every WhizInvoice plan, Free included, emails your invoices and sends reminders. How your customers pay is up to you.

Can I bring my Wave bookkeeping across?

No, WhizInvoice is not accounting software. Keep your Wave export for your records and give your accountant what they need from it.

Is WhizInvoice cheaper than Wave Pro?

Solo is US$4.99 a month or US$49 a year, against Wave Pro at US$19 a month or US$190 a year per business. The two products do different jobs, so compare the features you need.
