Leaving FreshBooks? Bring your clients with you
FreshBooks is a polished invoicing and accounting tool aimed at freelancers and small service firms. If client limits or price are pushing you to look elsewhere, here is a fair comparison and the exact steps to move.
Why growing service businesses look beyond FreshBooks
FreshBooks does a lot well: clean invoices, time tracking, expenses, proposals on higher plans, and statements and recurring invoices on every plan. For a consultant with a handful of retained clients, it can be a very comfortable home.
The pinch comes from how FreshBooks prices its plans. The limit is on billable clients rather than invoices: Lite allows 5, Plus allows 50, and only Premium removes the cap. Archived clients count towards the limit too. A cleaner, pest controller or handyman who serves dozens of different households a month reaches those limits quickly.
WhizInvoice has no client limit on any plan, Free included. It is also built around the way those businesses win work: an enquiry arrives on the website and needs to become a quote or invoice the same day.

FreshBooks facts checked October 2026 on freshbooks.com: the US pricing page and FAQ, the mobile apps page, and FreshBooks support articles on pricing, client currency, the HubSpot app, client account statements and data export. US list prices before introductory offers; the page does not say whether tax is included. FreshBooks is a trademark of its owner, named only to identify the product. WhizInvoice is independent of the company behind FreshBooks.
What FreshBooks does that WhizInvoice does not
Be clear about this before you move. FreshBooks includes time tracking, expense tracking and accounting reports, and it can invoice different clients in different currencies. WhizInvoice is not accounting software, invoices in one currency per business and does not track time or expenses.
If those features are central to how you work, FreshBooks may still be the better fit. If what you need is fast quoting and invoicing for lots of customers, with reminders and statements that run themselves, WhizInvoice is built for that. WhizInvoice does not connect to or sync with FreshBooks, so the move is a one time export and import.
Move from FreshBooks in four steps
Export your clients
In FreshBooks, open Clients, then More Actions, then Export Clients. You get a CSV file that includes addresses and notes; large lists are split into files of 1,000 clients.
Export your items and services
Open Items and Services. On the Items tab choose More Actions, then Export Items, and on the Services tab choose Export Services. Both download as CSV.
Bring the files into WhizInvoice
On Starter or above, upload each file and match the columns to name, email, phone, address, postcode and price.
Choose your country, then add your websites
Pick your country in Settings for currency and tax, then connect your websites so new enquiries arrive ready to invoice.
Make the move painless
Several client files
If FreshBooks split your clients into several CSV files, import them one after another. Check the totals add up.
Keep your history
Before you cancel, download the invoices and reports you need for your records from FreshBooks, because the WhizInvoice import covers customers and prices.
Payments straight to you
Add your bank details and, if you like, your own Stripe, PayPal or Square payment link. WhizInvoice never holds your money.
Retainers and regulars
Clients on a monthly fee can move to recurring invoices on Starter and above, so the switch does not interrupt their billing.
