Freelance invoices that follow up for you
Send a freelance invoice, know the moment a client opens it, let polite reminders do the chasing and take a deposit before you write a word or draw a line.
The part of freelancing nobody enjoys
You did the work, sent the invoice and heard nothing. Was it opened? Did it go to the wrong person? Is it rude to ask again after a week?
WhizInvoice answers the first two questions and takes the third off your plate. You see when each invoice is delivered and opened, and polite reminders go out before and after the due date until it is paid.
How WhizInvoice fits freelance work
Opened three times, still unpaid
See which clients opened your invoice and how many times. When someone has looked at it three times and not paid, you know it reached them.
A deposit before day one
Send a quote your client accepts online, then invoice the deposit before you start. On Solo and above, the final invoice deducts it automatically.
Retainers that bill themselves
Monthly content, maintenance or support retainers go out as recurring invoices on the date you choose. You stop remembering, and the client stops being surprised.
Extra rounds of changes
When the client asks for a fourth round of edits, add it as its own line with the hours. The scope you agreed and the extras you did are both on the record.
Tax time without the scramble
On Solo and above, export every invoice and customer as a CSV whenever you like. On Business, your accountant gets ready made reports, including the tax you collected.
Enquiries from your portfolio
Connect your portfolio site and every contact form lands in your enquiry list. Quote straight from the message instead of copying it into another app.
From a portfolio enquiry to a paid invoice
A brief arrives through your site
A marketing manager fills in your contact form asking for five pages of website copy. Their name, company and message land in your enquiry list.
Quote first, deposit second
Send a quote from the enquiry. They accept it online, and you invoice half up front before the kickoff call.
Deliver and invoice the balance
When the copy is signed off, turn the quote into the final invoice, add the extra round of edits and send it. The deposit is already deducted.
Let reminders do the asking
If the client goes quiet, a polite reminder goes out on the due date and after it. Once the invoice is paid, the reminders stop by themselves.
An example freelance invoice
A copywriting project with blog articles and an extra round of edits. No sales tax is shown, as written services like these are not taxed in many states. Check your own state’s rules and set a rate if one applies.
Example only, with a fictional business and customer. Your invoices use your own details, tax settings and design.
| Description | Qty | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website copy, 5 pages, two rounds of edits included | 1 | $1,500.00 | $1,500.00 |
| Blog articles, about 1,200 words each | 4 | $275.00 | $1,100.00 |
| Extra round of edits, home page (hours) | 2 | $85.00 | $170.00 |

Good to know
Can I see if a client opened my invoice?
Yes, on every plan. Each invoice shows whether it was delivered, bounced or opened, and when.
Can I ask for a deposit before starting?
Yes. Quotes and deposits are part of Solo and above, so your client accepts online and pays the deposit before you begin.
Can retainers be invoiced every month without me?
Yes. Recurring invoices on Solo and above go out on the schedule you set, with reminders if they are not paid.
Does it work for clients in other countries?
Yes, you can invoice clients abroad in any currency. Your own country and tax settings decide the tax name, rate and tax number shown on your invoices, so check with your accountant how tax applies to overseas clients.
Is the Free plan enough to start freelancing with?
It covers the basics with no time limit: unlimited invoices and clients, automatic reminders and opened tracking, with a small Sent with WhizInvoice note on emails. Solo removes the note and adds quotes, deposits and recurring invoices.
Stop chasing, start getting paid
Start free with unlimited invoices and reminders, then move to Solo for deposits and retainers.
Free plan forever. No card needed to start.
